DAILY
ITINERARY
Day 1 ARRIVE NAIROBI, KENYA.
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2 NAIROBI / KILIMANJARO, TANZANIA / ARUSHA.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the short flight to Kilimanjaro. You will be met and driven to your lodge, set just outside of Arusha. The rest of the day is free to explore Arusha, formerly a trading post for the local Waarusha and Wameru tribes. (B)
NOTE: Guests joining the safari in Arusha begin today. Transfer from the airport will be provided.
Day 3 ARUSHA / LAKE MANYARA.
Meet your safari guide and take a guided morning walk around Lake Duluti. Then, travel to Lake Manyara National Park. This small Park is a scenic wonderland with beautiful views across the lake into the Rift Valley. Elephants, lions, hippos, and hundreds of species of birds make their homes here. (B,L,D)
Day 4 LAKE MANYARA / SERENGETI.
One more game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, followed by an afternoon drive to the Serengeti. Covering 5,600 square miles, Seregeti National Park is home to one of the largest and most diverse wild animal populations in Africa. (B,L,D)
Day 5 SERENGETI.
In the language of the Masai, Serengeti means the “endless plains that go up to the sky.” Here you enjoy sweeping vistas of the savannah. Look for lion, leopard, cheetah, wildebeest, Thompson’s gazelle, zebra and more on morning and evening game drives. (B,L,D)
Day 6 SERENGETI / NGORONGORO.
Watch for more animals as you head to Olduvai Gorge, the site of Louis and Mary Leakey's renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of man's earliest known ancestral remains. There is time to walk through the small museum. After a picnic lunch, continue to your lodge set high on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. (B,L,D)
Day 7 NGORONGORO CRATER.
Descend more than 2,000 feet through the morning mist in to Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa's most captivating wildlife areas. Due to its size, this volcanic caldera is comprised of several distinct areas of flora and fauna. Vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelle and their predators roam the crater. Look for the rare black rhino grazing in and near the lakes. This afternoon, visit a Maasai village before returning to the lodge for dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 8 NGORONGORO CRATER / TARANGIRE.
Leave Ngorongoro, heading to Mto wa Mbu village, home to more than 90 different tribes. Continue on through the highlands with its expanse of farmland and coffee plantations. Enter Tarangire National Park and enjoy a game drive on the way to the lodge. After lunch at the lodge, perhaps take a relaxing swim in the swimming pool. Before dinner, enjoy another game drive. This area has one of the highest densities of elephants found in Africa. (B,L,D)
Day 9 TARANGIRE / ARUSHA / KILIMANJARO / DEPART NAIROBI.
One last chance to photograph the Masai Steppe. After a break for lunch in Arusha, transfer to airport in Kilimanjaro for your flight to Nairobi. On arrival, you will be met and taken to the Carnivore Restaurant for a Farewell Dinner. Later, transfer to the airport for your overnight. (B,L,D)
PLEASE NOTE: A visa is required for U.S. citizens for Tanzania. Non-U.S. citizens should check with their respective consulates.
It is prudent to consult your physician regarding taking anti-malaria pills. Proof is needed of yellow fever vaccination for travel between Tanzania and Kenya.
As some East African roads and game park trails can be very rough, we do not recommend this tour to people with back problems.
Soft-sided luggage is recommended on all safaris.
It is customary to reward your safari driver/ guide with a gratuity of about $7-$10 per day per tour member for a good performance.
