DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1 DEPART USA.
Your journey begins as you board your overnight transatlantic flight bound for Cape Town.

Day 2 ARRIVE CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA.
Welcome to South Africa! Upon arrival, you are met and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the "Mother City" on your own Perhaps take the ferry to Robben Island to tour the maximum-security prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated.

Day 3 CAPE OF GOOD HOPE EXCURSION.
Depart on a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula, driving the Atlantic seaboard via Hout Bay. Visit the Cape Point Nature Reserve, then stop to see the lovable penguins at Boulders Beach. Drive back to Cape Town through the historic naval village of Simon’s Town. (B)

Day 4 WINE COUNTRY EXCURSION.
Enjoy a private drive through the picturesque Wine Country. Visit some of the vineyards, tour a wine cellar and, of course, sample the renowned South African wines. Finally explore the quaint towns of Stellenbosch and Franschoek before returning to Cape Town. (B)

Day 5 CAPE TOWN / BOARD YOUR TRAIN.
Take a mid-morning transfer to the Cape Town train station to begin your extraordinary journey. The Blue Train is synonymous with elegance and luxury. Travel through some of South Africa’s most dramatic scenery while enjoying all the comforts of home. Your stateroom has individual climate control, a private entertainment center and an around the clock butler. (B,L,D)

Day 6 TRAIN JOURNEY / PRETORIA / JOHANNESBURG.
Continue your journey through the memorable scenery of the Great Karoo, called the “Place of Great Dryness” by the Hottentot and Bushmen who once lived here. Arrive in Pretoria mid-afternoon. You will be met and taken on an orientation tour of this beautiful city, South Africa’s administrative center. The streets are lined with the lavender Jacaranda trees, an incredible sight during blooming season. Then transfer to your hotel in the stylish Rosebank district of Johannesburg. The evening is free for independent activities in this cosmopolitan neighborhood. (B)

Day 7 JOHANNESBURG.
This morning take a tour of Soweto Township, synonymous with South Africa’s political history and the fight against apartheid. See the homes of Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Tutu, the Hector Peterson Museum, and Regina Mondi Church. Your afternoon is free for independent activities.

Note: You can choose not to take the Soweto tour and replace it with a half-day Johannesburg city tour. You must advise an agent at the time of booking.

Day 8 JOHANNESBURG / KRUGER NATIONAL PARK.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Kruger. On arrival, transfer to your lodge and get ready for your first safari later this afternoon. Climb aboard an open Land Rover to begin your adventure. Your Game Ranger is eager to share his intimate knowledge of the bush with you, expertly pointing out game. (B,D)

Note: The animals are most active early in the morning and late in the afternoon. You may wish to match the rhythm of the day to that of the animals.

Days 9 & 10 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK.
Enjoy two memorable days in Kruger National Park. Begin each day with an early morning drive. If you are fortunate, you may be able to spot a multitude of animals including lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, and cheetah. In the afternoons, relax at your camp or catch up on your postcards. Another drive at sunset will complete each day. All of your meals will be served at your lodge. (B,L,D daily)

Day 11 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK / DEPART JOHANNESBURG.
Take one last early morning game drive before breakfast. Then transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Johannesburg, where you will connect with your overnight flight home.

Day 11 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK / JOHANNESBURG.
Fly to Johannesburg and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B)

Day 12 JOHANNESBURG / VICTORIA FALLS, ZAMBIA.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Victoria Falls. After settling into your hotel in Zambia, enjoy a cruise on the Zambezi River aboard the African Queen. Note: We can also reserve accommodation for you on the Zimbabwe side. Ask an agent for details. (B)

Day 13 VICTORIA FALLS.
Marvel on a tour of Victoria Falls, “discovered” by David Livingstone in 1855. The tumbling water plunges into a vertical boiling chasm 355 feet below and produces spray that can be seen 50 miles away! The local tribesmen called the Falls Mosi-Oa-Tunya, the “smoke the thunders.” See the Devil’s Cataract and walk through the rainforest to the best view points. Ideas for the afternoon include the Mkuni village, where you can experience local African life, or stop at the market and see the Livingstone Museum. Your local host will have plenty of suggestions to see and do. (B)

Day 14 VICTORIA FALLS / JOHANNESBURG.
Your morning is at leisure. Perhaps take the optional “Flight of the Angels” for a splendid bird’s eye view of the Falls. Then transfer to the airport for your afternoon flight to Johannesburg and your onward international flight home.
