ITINERARY Day 1 USA/Madrid Our Spiritual Journey to Madrid begins as we depart the USA on our transatlantic flight. Day 2 Madrid/Avila/Salamanca On arrival our guide/tour escort will welcome us. We then depart for Avila. We will visit St. Teresa of Jesus, who was the first woman to be named a Doctor of the Church. Visit the Cathedral, which contains many of St. Teresa relics; the crypt of Convento of La Santa, built on the site of the house where she was born, is teh home to the most comprehensive museum dedicated to her life. We then continue on to Salamanca.(D) Day 3 Salamanca/Lisbon We depart for Lisbon for a panoramic city tour. We will visit the Basilica of of St. Anthony of Padua, St. Jeronimo's Monastery and the famous Belem Tower.(B,D) Day 4 Lisbon/Santarem/Fatima Today we continue to Santarem, site of the oldest Eucharistic miracles in the world. We will visit the church of Marvila (Mass in Santarem). We then continue on to Fatima. Upon arrival you can relax in your hotel or participate in evening candlelight procession.(B,D) Day 5 Fatima Today we will spend the day in Fatima. We celebrate Mass at Little Chapel of the Apparations. After Mass we tour the Basilica site of Francesco and Jacinta tombs and Monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We continue to Hamlet of Aljustrel and Valinhos, we see the two homes of the little shepherds. In the afternoon return to Fatima for personal devotions. Join pilgrims from all over the world in the evening candlelight procession to pray the rosary.(B,D) Day 6 Fatima/Santiago de Compostela This morning we leave Fatima for Santiago de Compostela. We will visit the Cathedral of St. James the Apostle. The relics of St. James are enshrined in the crypt beneath the high altar in the silver coffer, touch the central pillar, and admire the wealth of medieval art inside the Cathedral. Visit the Cloister museum. Celebrate, Mass at the local church. (B,D) Day 7 Fatima Day of leisure or explore the place on your own. (B,D) Day 8 Santiago de Compostela/Burgos After breakfast depart Santiago de Compostela for Burgos. Burgos is known as the cradle of the Castile region. Upon arrival we will visit the Cathedral of Burgos, the third largest church in Spain. Celebrate, Mass at the local church. (B,D) Day 9 Burgos/Garabandal/Burgos Today, a day excursion to Garabandal. Since June 18, 1961, little has changed in this rural town, when four children had an apparition first of an Angel to prepare the children for the Virgin's visit. The Blessed Virgin visited the children from July 2, 1961 sporadically until November 13, 1965. We will visit the Miracle sight. Celebrate, Mass at the local church. Later return to Burgos. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B,D) Day 10 Burgos/Loyola/Lourdes This morning we depart Burgos for Loyola. We will visit the birthplace of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. We will see the 17th Century Basilica dedicated to St. Ignatius. Celebrate, Mass at the Basilica. We then continue on to Lourdes. Lourdes is one of the greatest pilgrimages site in the world today. The Virgin confirmed her title to the world as she raised her eyes to heaven and said, "I am the Immaculate Conception", on March 25, 1858. (B,D) Day 11 Lourdes Celebrate Mass at the Chapel Lourdes. We will visit the sights and shrines of Lourdes. Later we will visit St. Bernadette's house. We will visit the Miraculous springs and the healing bath. The Blessing of the sick, procession which takes place daily from 16:00 to 17:30 hrs. After dinner, in the evening join thousands of other pilgrims in the rosary and candlelight procession. (B,D) Day 12 Lourdes Day of leisure or explore the place on your own. (B,D) Day 13 Lourdes/Zaragoza This morning, Celebrate, Mass at the Chapel Lourdes. We then leave Lourdes for Zaragoza. We will visit the shrine of Our Lady of the Pillar which is the second most popular pilgrimage site in Spain. Tradition holds that Our Lady, while still alive, appeared to St. James at the Ebero River to encourage him in his evangelization. As a sign of her protection, Mary, it is said, left him the pilar with her statue. We see the Chapel of the Virgin, Assumption of the Virgin marble statue and other numerous chapels and artworks. (B,D) Day 14 Zaragoza/Madrid Celebrate Mass at the Basilica. We then continue on to Madrid. We will have a panoramic city tour. We will visit the Prado Museum. (B,D) Day 15 Madrid/USA This morning our pilgrimage comes to an end. After breakfast, transfer to airport for your return flight to the USA. (B)
