PRE-TOUR EXTENSTION TO BARROW Set far above the Arctic Circle, Barrow is the northernmost city in North America. It is home to a large Inupiat Eskimo settlement, and the traditional ways of life blend with some modern conveniences for a rustic lifestyle in an authentic village. The Native Alaskans here will share their fascinating stories, traditions and culture with you on a full day visit to this frozen but captivating land. Day 1: Arrive Fairbanks Arrive in Fairbanks, deep in the Land of the Midnight Sun. You will be met and transferred to your hotel, where the balance of the day is free. Day 2: Barrow Excursion After breakfast, transfer to the airport (a sack breakfast may be provided based on transfer time). Your Arctic Adventure starts with a flight north to the "Top of the World." Barrow is the northernmost point on the continent, 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle, and Alaska's largest Eskimo village. Here, knowledge of the environment and animal behavior is essential for day-to-day survival. You will learn the ceremonies and traditions of the Native culture as you tour the Inupait Heritage Center, take part in native dances, and see a demonstration of the traditional blanket toss. You will also have a chance to examine the unique flora of the tundra, view the Arctic Ocean, and walk on the beach as far north as you're ever likely to go. Return to Fairbanks later this evening, and meet your Tour Director at the hotel. (B)
