DAILY ITINERARY Day 1: Arrive Washington DC. Welcome to the nation's capital. You will be transferred to your hotel, where the balance of the day is free. Your Tour Director will be available this afternoon to welcome you and answer any questions. Day 2: Washington DC. This morning’s tour of Washington highlights views of the city's most famous landmarks, including the White House, Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. See the World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. Then cross the river and take a narrated tour of Arlington National Cemetery. (FB) Day 3: Washington DC/Mount Vernon/Williamsburg Your first stop this morning is Mount Vernon, the former home of George Washington. Then head south through Virginia to Yorktown, where the British Army was finally defeated, ending the Revolutionary War. Next is Colonial Williamsburg. This evening, enjoy a welcome drink followed by a special Virginia colonial dinner. (FB,D) Day 4: Jamestown Excursion This morning visit Jamestown, site of the first permanent English settlement in America, founded in 1607. See replicas of the ships that brought the first settlers to the New World, and the re-created fort and Indian village. There is time to explore the site before returning to Williamsburg, where the rest of the day is free. Step back into the 18th century as you stroll along the Duke of Gloucester Street where the townspeople, adorned in period costumes, go about their daily lives in faithfully restored shops, taverns and homes. (FB) Day 5: Williamsburg/Monticello/Shenandoah National Park Travel to Richmond, once the capital of the Confederacy and now the capital of Virginia. See the State Capitol and St. John's Church where Patrick Henry exclaimed "Give me liberty or give me death." From here, continue into the rolling hills of Virginia’s countryside to Monticello, the beautiful home of President Thomas Jefferson. This afternoon, head into the Blue Ridge Mountains, following the scenic Skyline Drive of Shenandoah National Park. (FB,D) Day 6: Shenandoah National Park/Gettysburg Travel north through the town of Harper's Ferry, site of abolitionist John Brown’s raid which ignited the early flames of the Civil War. Next to Gettysburg to tour the nearby farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The balance of the day is free to begin exploring the town of Gettysburg on your own. (FB) Day 7: Gettysburg/Amish Country/Philadelphia Tour the Gettysburg National Military Park this morning with a local guide. Then on through Lancaster County into the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside, the land of the Amish. See the rich farmlands and learn more about these peaceful people. Finally, travel to Philadelphia, the “City of Brotherly Love.” This evening, enjoy a Farewell Dinner at the hotel. (FB,D) Day 8: Philadelphia/Depart Washington DC. On an orientation tour of Philadelphia, visit the award-winning National Constitution Center, the first museum dedicated to the U.S. Constitution. Then on to Independence National Historical Park, home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Return to Washington DC with stops at Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airports and at the Washington DC hotel for passengers extending their stay.
