ITINERARY - Guadalupe, Mexico
Day 1 USA/Mexico City We depart USA on our journey to Mexico City. On arrival, you will be welcomed by the local tour escort and later transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and get acquainted. Day 2 Cholula/Puebla Breakfast at the hotel. We visit Cholula which is located near the twin volcanic peaks Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl and the city of Puebla. The Great Pyramid of Tipanipa, dedicated to Quetzalcoatl, is the largest single structure in Mexico. Towering 181 feet high and covering an area of some 25 acres, the pyramid was begun in Pre-Classic times and enlarged at least four times. Seen from a distance today, it appears as a large hill with a Colonial church (Our Lady of Remedies) resting at its summit. Reminder of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Puebla. Day 3 Puebla/Tlaxcala Breakfast at the hotel. Puebla it is renowned for its distinctive Spanish colonial architecture, savory cuisine, Talavera ceramics, onyx crafts, and textile industry. Puebla, Mexico's fourth-largest city is packed with ornate churches. We visit the Cathedral and the Rosary Chapel. The Rosary Chapel is one of the finest examples of Mexican Barroque style. The chapel is entirely covered with gold leaf, tiles and fine woodworks. We then drive along the mountains, passing by Mount Ixtacihuatl on our way to Tlaxcala, and Shrine of San Miguel Del Milagro, the site where St. Michael the Archangel appeared to Juan Diego and told him of a miraculous spring. The well which holds the miraculous spring is enclosed. We can get the healing waters, to which St. Michael instilled its creative powers from the church. In the evening, return to our hotel in Puebla. Day 4 Teotihuacan/Mexico City Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will visit the archaeological ruins of Teotihuacan, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in Mexico. Walk along Teotihuacan's major axis, which is called the Avenue of the Dead. (named by the Spanish because of the Aztec's ritual sacrifices of war prisoners - but that probably isn't what the Teotihuacanos called it.). Along the mile Long Avenue of the dead, there are countless monuments, including the pyramids of the Sun and Moon. In the evening, return to our hotel in Mexico City. Rest of the day is at leisure. Day 5 Mexico City Breakfast at the hotel. Mass at St. Francis de Assisi Church. Sightseeing tour of Mexico. This morning we spend the day in Mexico City. We will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, which is the oldest and largest cathedral in Latin America. The result is a structure of various styles and containing five altars and 14 chapels. The National Palace, main attraction is the amazing display of murals by Diego We will then visit the world-renowned National Museum of Anthropology and then return to the hotel. Day 6 Mexico City-Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Basilica Breakfast at the hotel. Morning, we visit the prominent complex and one of Mexico's holiest shrines, where the Virgin of Guadalupe is said to have appeared to St. Juan Diego. Visit the New Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in which the astounding sacred Tilma (image of the Virgin) is displayed, to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Hear Mass at the Basilica. Later, we visit the Tepeyac Hill and the surrounding gardens. Day 7 Mexico City/USA Breakfast at the hotel. Depart Mexico City for flight back to the USA. |
