ITINERARY
Day 1 BOARD YOUR OVERNIGHT TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT.
Day 2 ARRIVE NAIROBI, KENYA.
Early evening arrival in Kenya’s modern capital, you are transferred from the airport to the Safari Park Hotel. Remainder of the day is free.
Day 3 NAIROBI / MASAI MARA.
Meet your safari guide and depart for the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Drive through the spectacular Great Rift Valley, arriving at your lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon, enjoy a game drive in Masai Mara National Park, which boasts the richest concentration of wildlife in Kenya. Its savannah plains are famous for the annual migration of wildebeest in search of the best grazing areas. (B,L,D)
Day 4 MASAI MARA.
A full day game viewing in the Mara. The "Big Five" – lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo – may be seen, as well as the cheetah. (B,L,D)
Day 5 MASAI MARA / GREAT RIFT VALLEY / LAKE NAKURU / LAKE NAIVASHA.
This morning, travel through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru, considered the finest place on earth for birdwatching. See cormorants, pelicans, hornbills, and the most spectacular of wildlife spectacles – thousands of birds, mainly flamingos, lining the banks of the lake, stretching out across the water in a pink haze. After lunch, enjoy a game drive in this relatively small park which has been designated a rhino sanctuary. Then travel on to Lake Naivasha, one of only two freshwater lakes in the Great Rift Valley. Day 6 LAKE NAIVASHA / NAIROBI / AMBOSELI.
Head back to Nairobi, then continue on to Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is situated at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, towering 19,430 feet above the plains. Your game viewing starts this afternoon. (B,L,D)
Day 7 AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK.
A full day of game viewing beginning with an early morning game drive. Watch for giraffes, cape buffalo and lions today. Amboseli is also renowned for its superb viewing of elephants. (B,L,D)
Day 8 AMBOSELI / ARUSHA / LAKE MANYARA, TANZANIA.
Cross the border into Tanzania at Namanga, then on to Arusha. Drive across the Masai Steppe to Lake Manyara. Elephants, lions, hippos, and hundreds of species of birds make their homes here. Your lodge is perched high on the rim, overlooking the valley. (B,L,D)
Day 9 LAKE MANYARA / SERENGETI.
Tour Lake Manyara National Park this morning, then on to the Serengeti. Covering 5,600 square miles, Serengeti National Park is home to one of the largest and most diverse wild animal populations on earth. (B,L,D)
Day 10 SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.
Delight in a full day of game viewing in the Serengeti. Wildebeest, Thompson’s gazelle and zebra gather for annual migrations, attracting a great deal of attention from their predators – lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. (B,L,D)
Day 11 SERENGETI / NGORONGORO.
Morning excursion to Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mary Leakey’s renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of man’s earliest known ancestral remains. Continue to Ngorongoro. (B,L,D)
Day 12 NGORONGORO CRATER.
Travel to the fascinating Ngorongoro Crater floor, one of Africa’s most captivating wildlife areas. Descend nearly 2,000 feet into this extinct collapsed volcano to experience spectacular game viewing. Vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, and their predators roam the crater floor. Look for the rare black rhino grazing in and near the lakes. This afternoon, visit a Maasai village before returning to the lodge for dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 13 NGORONGORO / TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK.
Leave Ngorongoro, heading to Tarangire National Park. After lunch at your lodge, take an afternoon game drive to search out elephants, elands, impala, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and birds of prey. Return to your lodge at sunset. (B,L,D)
Day 14 TARANGIRE / DEPART NAIROBI.
One last opportunity to watch for game as you drive back to Arusha. After a stop for lunch, continue your journey to Nairobi. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at the world-renown Carnivore Restaurant. Then you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home. (B,L,D)
Day 15 ARRIVE USA.
A visa is required for U.S. citizens for Kenya and Tanzania. Non-U.S. citizens should check with their respective consulates.
It is prudent to consult your physician regarding taking anti-malaria pills. Proof is needed of yellow fever vaccination for travel between Tanzania and Kenya.
As some East African roads and game park trails can be very rough, we do not recommend this tour to people with back problems.
Soft-sided luggage is recommended on all safaris.
It is customary to reward your safari driver/ guide with a gratuity of about $5-$7 per day per tour member for a good performance.
